Over a cantury ago, towards the end of the Spanish Occupation of the Philippines, Jose Rizal, now the Philippine's national hero, wrote Noli Mi Tangere and El Filibusterismo.
His works opened the eyes of the Filipinos and empowered them to fight for their motherland.

It is now 1944. The Filipinos now fight another enemy, the Japanese.
This war is soon going to end, but for Mando Plaridel, a young Filipino guerilla, a new war is about to begin.
